Local Blur and Blocking Artifact Detection in Digital Images

چکیده

In this paper, we will present a novel but simple unified method to locally detect blocking artifact and blur in digital compressed image. Digital images are prone to coding artifacts in terms of blur and blocking artifacts. Each of the distortion mentioned above has different characteristics due to coding scheme applied to the images. We present a local blur and blocking artifact detection based on Haar Wavelet Transform analysis. We modeled a blurred edge as an edge which lose its sharpness which its edge characteristics can be measured. We then modeled the blocking artifacts as an Astep edge structure with low-tomoderate transition in terms of intensities. By operating the Haar Wavelet Transform analysis in edge domain, a local blocking artifact measurement can be derived. We present our experiments using LIVE Image Database Release 2.
